Scotland has an excellent road network with motorways and dual carriageway roads linking many of the main cities and towns. The main motorway connection into Scotland is the M6 which connects the north west of England with the M74 at the south western border. There are a number of alternative routes (including the A1) which connect Newcastle with Edinburgh and the A68 and the A7 which provide scenic routes through southern Scotland.
